Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Hey everybody! How is everyone? Tell me about your week. I’ll get to mine momentarily, first off, this week’s brand new episode of RTW TV: Weekly Round Up just went up a couple minutes ago:

(Note: Sorry for the delay if anyone was waiting for the video overnight. I was having some difficulty getting it uploaded. I finally had to cut a segment (and it was about gummy penguins, sorry!) out and then it finally worked, so I guess it was a file size issue, perhaps, not sure but I’ll be continuing learning as I go with YouTube.)

We didn’t get as much time as we did last week to dedicate to the show, but still ended up with a bunch of stuff, and the end result is completely random and fun-filled so I’m satisfied. I’d grab the camera while doing some late-night snacking after a trip to the pharmacy, out shopping for Halloween crap with a friend, etc. Our kitten Tomo gets some exposure, too; she discovered bubbles for the first time and I found the end result hilarious.

So, back to the week that was, how was everyone’s? Man, mine was pretty exhausting, truth be told, but now that it’s through and I can actually chill out a bit and reflect, it kind of helps putting in perspective how nice life is when it isn’t that nuts. Besides school all week, I usually work part-time, but my store’s owners were all out in Vegas at a convention, so on top of daily classes at two different campuses, I also spent most of my evenings at work. I had a math quiz and then Friday was involved in a group presentation, which ended up pretty good, with my duty covering the TV quiz show scandals of the ‘50’s and the Civil Rights Act of ’64. But, this all rendered my free, personal time to virtual nonexistence; trying to look at the positive side of things (always) I guess I could say that at least it made time move quicker.

In all the hubbub, commuting, busywork, etc. I do try to keep a calm and kind mind—it helps from letting things overwhelm us. I also try to keep an eye out for beauty in the small things. Curbs have been my interest lately. Ever look closely at one, maybe while stopped at a red light, etc.? I think they have such personalities. They’ll usually be altered, stained by contact with wheels, dirtied by weather and time, and my favorite, chipped away with pieces missing, rubble knocked off and then sent on its own unique, lonely journey. It might sound silly, sure, but I really like looking at things in a poetic way, it helps us realize how amazing and awe-inspiring the world around us really is.

Well, I just intended on posting the new video and running, so thanks for bearing with my self-indulgent ramblings. I hope everyone’s doing swell. I’m looking forward to the comfort of autumn and winter holidays, family, food, and some well-deserved free time to enjoy our new high-definition cable! Be well.

Ahahahahhaa! Tomo discovered bubbles! Adorable!

The cookie sandwich also looks amazing--or at least in theory. I don't want none of that freezer-burn crap.

Adam's triumphant return!

Tomo again! I could watch Tomo watching those bubbles all day.

My week was pretty okay. I ate some sushi and some squid the other day. Otherwise, work is pretty much the same every day. I'm enjoying the return of prime-time TV, and in some HD cable of my own. Also, straight-to-DVD movies like "The Lost Boys: The Tribe," "Flight of the Living Dead," and "Meet Bill" have all proved to be worthwhile if you have a Redbox handy (Redboxes are my new favorite invention).

I know you're in Ohio--did you lose power at all b/c of the hurricane? My sister-in-law is in Columbus, and she didn't lose power. I know somebody else who lost power for three days.

Sorry to hear that you've been so busy, although sometimes I feel like that's better than the alternative. I've spent far too many nights recently staring at nothing in particular.

I'm going to have to ponder some curbs in the near future. As always, you seem to point out the little things in life that most of us ignore, and you manage to sap some sheer happiness out of it. Thanks for the post, and I look forward to the next weekly wrap-up.

i can't tell you how much i enjoy getting comments from you, mike.. - it's nice to know this little project of mine is appreciated.. - you seem to "get it", as it were, plus you've got a pretty vocabulary, are more witty, etc. so reading your thoughts on my stuff is the equal of you discovering new RTW material..

tomo is awesome.. really brightened my life.. - love having her around.. especially when amanda is working her long, all-night nursing shifts.. - sushi and squid? - awesome! - squid, texturally, is a bit odd for me.. so chewy.. although i'd still eat it.. and fried calamari at italian restaurants is great, too.. - sushi is a favorite of mine.. - yes.. i'm excited about TV also.. - for the first time in ages.. - HD is especially nice.. - Redbox? - what's that? - i want to see the lost boys sequel as the original if a horror fave of mine.. - i had meet bill at the library but failed to pick it up before my hold expired so i'll have to seek it out again later..

the storm was nuts.. - my town looked like a hurricane actually hit it.. - i'd wager over 50+ trees down.. - destroying fences, vehiciles, property damage, etc. - my power went down during it on sunday and didn't return until tuesday afternoon.. - had to throw away a lot of groceries, miss DVR recordings, etc. - it was wild.. - my whole town transformed.. like true scavangers.. raiding wal-mart like the earth was ending and fighting at gas pumps..

this weeks' round up might be slightly truncated due to the crazy week.. but it'll definitely be up and available per the new norm of late saturday nights.. - i'm looking forward to doing holiday-themed skits for the show throughout the rest of the year.. - be well!

Hey Brian--your site is awesome enough that I don't know why anyone wouldn't "get it" :)

Redbox is a grocery-story movie-rental service. It's pretty much a big vending machine, but it's cheap ($1 a night) and it always gets the new releases and a number of crappy straight-to-video ones too.

I never saw the original, but I have to say that the sequel to Lost Boys was pretty decent for what it was (a 2008 straight-to-video sequel to an 80's vampire movie). Corey Feldman has a good, quotable line or two in it.

I can't believe the storm hit Ohio as badly as it did. Sorry you were hit, although it sounds like you survived it with dignity intact (as opposed to the looters and mean-spirited savages).
